Conference speakers

The theme on Saturday, April 21, will be “Good News for These Times”. Speakers include:

David Haskell from Wilfrid Laurier University, is co-author of the groundbreaking study “Theology Matters”, which found that conservative theology is a driver for growth, and liberal theology leads to church decline. He will also discuss a study that he conducted with colleague Dr. Kevin Flatt. It’s to be published in the journal Sociology of Religion and examines the different reasons congregants and clergy of growing and declining mainline congregations give for the state of their church.

Scholar and author John G. Stackhouse Jr. of Crandall University, speaks to audiences around the world. He is noted for his studies of church and culture and will be speaking on the future of evangelicalism in general. He authored the July-August 2017 cover story in Faith Today which celebrated the rich and enduring history of the Canadian evangelical church. His newest book, Why you’re here: ethics for the real world, addresses what faithfulness looks like in complex and confusing times.
